To treat your gum disease, Dr. Crawford can use a special laser treatment called the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP). This cutting-edge dental technology ensures you will experience exceptional care.
Minimal Discomfort
Since the treatment doesn't use cutting or stitching, there is little to no pain during the procedure.
Faster Healing
Because of the minimally invasive nature of the laser, you will have quicker healing time.
Quicker Recovery Time
You will have less bleeding and discomfort after your treatment. You can return to your normal routine much quicker.
Less Risk of Post-Operative Infection
Thanks to the preciseness of the laser, you will have less risk of infection after your treatment.
Better Gum Health
While the laser removes the infected tissue, it will stimulate the growth of healthy gum tissue.
We Can Restore Your Gums When the Infection Is Gone
As an experienced periodontist, Dr. Crawford's goal is to keep your smile in great shape for many years to come. He hears from patients all the time how amazing their smile looks and feels, thanks to his treatment.
After your gum infection is gone, Dr. Crawford may recommend a procedure to restore your receding gumline. He offers the pinhole technique. It's a minimally invasive solution that involves little if any alteration of your normal routine. Or he may suggest a grafting procedure, which uses tissue from your mouth or a donor. He'll discuss your options with you, so together you can decide what's best for your smile.

MoreWhat Is LANAP®?
LANAP® stands for “Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure” and offers a more comfortable treatment alternative to conventional surgery with faster recovery. LANAP® = LAR™ is the only scientifically, research proven methodology that results in true periodontal regeneration, new bone growth and gum tissue reattachment.
LANAP® and LAR™ are accomplished with the PerioLase® MVP-7™, a free-running, variable pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The 7 variable pulse durations can be thought of as “different lasers” in one device that employ discrete and discriminating tissue interactions.
The LANAP® = LAR™ treatment is one of the most successful protocols in treating gum disease because it can target the source of the inflammation without hurting or removing any healthy gum tissue, slow or stop attachment loss, decrease pocket depth, and allow the body to recover from the chronic infection without the need for a scalpel or sutures.
How the LANAP® Protocol Works
You can’t change physics! The success of the LANAP® Protocol is rooted in laser physics and the unique interaction between the tissue in the mouth and the variable pulsed wavelength of the PerioLase® MVP-7™ 1064 Nd:YAG dental laser.
The 1064 wavelength passes through water and hydroxyapatite but is absorbed in melanin and hemoglobin. Simply put, the wavelength targets the diseased tissue without harming healthy tissue.
The laser light penetrates 4 mm beyond the tissue surface to effectively kill bacteria. Once the site is clean, the laser interacts with the hemoglobin to establish a stable fibrin clot, creating a closed and sealed system for regeneration to begin.
The LANAP® Protocol, Step-by-Step
Dr. Crawford follows the precise LANAP® protocol from diseased tissue removal through root cleaning, bacteria reduction, and clot formation, allowing the gum and bone to regenerate around a clean, healthy root surface.
